Coach Ami doesn't just talk about discipline. He's lived it for over two decades.
Jamie "Ami" Tillman is a Slidell native who gave 23 years to this country — four with the United States Marine Corps and nineteen with the U.S. Army. When he retired in 2017, he didn't slow down. He came home and got straight to work serving the community that raised him.
Right now, he works full time for the St. Tammany Parish School Board as a Drill Instructor at Project Believe — a program built for youth who need structure, direction, and someone who believes in them. That's Coach Ami in a nutshell.
For the last two years, he's brought that same energy to Anointed Hands Boxing, helping lead youth classes and conditioning. When Coach Ami speaks, the kids listen — because they can feel that he's not just coaching boxing. He's coaching life.
Outside the gym he stays busy. He's a certified Pistol and Rifle Instructor, a Kendo practitioner, and an avid runner. He has a personal book collection of over 500 titles, collects Japanese swords, and designs his own turquoise and silver jewelry.
But everything he does comes back to the same thing — learning, growing, and passing it on. That's exactly why he fits here.
